Beta-Alanine is a component of the carnosine dipeptide (β-alanyl-L-histidine), naturally occurring in skeletal muscle, and in particular in the fast-contractile muscle fibers type II. Under natural conditions, carnosine buffers the pH drop associated with with the formation of lactic acid in the muscles during exercise, delaying muscle fatigue and allowing prolonging the training session. The amount of carnosine produced by meat depends directly on the availability of beta-alanine, which is why beta-alanine supplementation is so important to increase the concentration of carnosine in the muscles. Research has shown that beta-alanine supplementation not only delays fatigue, but also increases muscle strength and endurance.
